SOME EASIER WAYS TO COPE WITH HOUSEHOLD PROBLEMS.....
- To remove rust stains on kitchen counter tops, wipe the area with lemon juice.
- Place a few bay leaves in kitchen drawers to keep insects away.
- Put ground lemon peels to remove bad odour from kitchen garbage disposal bin.
- Pour boiling salt water to open up a choked kitchen sink.
- Submerge lemon in hot water for 15minutes before squeezing to yield twice the amount of juice.
- No more tears when you freeze onions for 5minutes before chopping them, or dip them in water for 10 minutes.
- To get rid of any odours on your hands after chopping onions or garlic, rub moistened salt into them and then rinse with warm water and soap.
- Brush little oil over the cheese grater before grating, so that the cheese will not stick to the grater.
- Never boil coffee since boiling brings out the tannic acid in the beans and makes it bitter.
- Add few teaspoons of oil while boiling lentils to help cook well and prevent any spill-over.
- While refrigerating do not wrap foods containing natural acids, such as tomatoes, onions and lemons in aluminium foil because a chemical reaction caused by the combination of acid and the foil can affect the taste of food. Use a plastic wrap instead. Salty foods can cause the foil to rust.
- To keep peppers fresh, remove the stalks and store.
- Store spices in a cool, dry place since heat and light spoil them.
- To remove the smell of cigarettes from the room, put half a teaspoon of baking powder in the ashtray or keep a cup of vinegar in the room to absorb the odour.
- To remove oil stains, rub the area with a piece of lime dipped in salt, and then wash with soap.
- To prevent garments from discoloring, soak the garments for 10minutes in salt water prior to washing. An alternative is to add a few drops of vinegar to the wash cycle.
