Miriyala Kandi Pappu Charu / Toor Dal Pepper Rasam


Ingredients:
  • Kandi Pappu / Toor Dal - 1 cup
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • Miriyalu/Peppers - 1tsp
  • Garlic - 5 flakes
  • Tamarind/chintapandu - 1tsp soaked in water
  • Dry Red Chillies - 4
  • Bellam/Jaggery 1/2tsp
  • Avalu/mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • Jeelakarra/Cumin Seeds - 1tsp
  • Curry Leaves/Karvepaaku - 3stems
  • Coriander Leaves chopped - 2tbsp
  • Oil - 2tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2tsp
  • Salt to taste
Method:
  • Pressure Cook Kandi Pappu/Toor Dal, Tomatoes, Tamarind and Turmeric powder. Then Mash this mixture with required water. Add salt and jaggery and keep aside.
  • For Jeera Mix: Roughly grind Jeelakarra, Garlic and Miriyalu(peppers).
  • For Tadka: Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  • Add Jeera mix and red chillies and fry for 2minutes and turn off the stove.
  • Add this tadka, curry leaves and coriander leaves to the kandi pappu mixture and heat for 5minutes (don't boil).
