Pappu Annam(Chana dal rice) is my mom's recipe. She used to prepare this recipe for our breakfast & lunch box. Even I used to cook this recipe when I was carrying coz this is the easiest one to cook and it is loaded with full of vitamins. This recipe goes well with any pickle. Couple of days back she cooked this for me and I have taken this pic. All I can say, its a must try recipe :)
Here goes the Ingredients:
- Rice - 1 Cup
- Senaga Pappu(Chana Dal) -3tbsp
- Onion - 1 cut into lengthwise
- Green Chillies - 1 or 2 cut into lengthwise
- Garlic chopped - 6 flakes
- Curry Leaves/ Karvepaaku - 1 sprig
- Carrot - 1 small cut into cubes
- Potato - 1 cut into cubes(peel the skin)
- Fresh Green Peas- 2tbsp
- Avalu/Mustard Seeds - 1/2tsp
- Jeelakarra/Cumin seeds - 1/2tsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil - 2tbsp
- Water - 2cups
How to Cook:
- Wash Rice thoroughly, drain water and set aside.
- Soak senaga pappu/chana dal for 30minutes in water. Drain water and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and allow it to splutter.
- Once spluttering starts add green chillies, onion, garlic, curry leaves and senaga pappu/chana dal and saute for 5minutes.
- Add carrots, potatoes and green peas. Fry for 10minutes.
- Now add water, salt and bring to boil.
- Add rice and mix well. Close with a lid and cook until the rice is well cooked.
- Yummy tasty pappu annam ready.
